THe Author’s Journals

We’ve had quite a new hot topic around here with the Little People the last couple of days. Apparently they are fascinated by the barn, or rather what’s left of it at our new house. The mystery of what happened to it has fueled their imaginations to overflowing. Aided in part by Frank. Sometimes I think that he thinks it is his personal job to fuel their ‘what if’ questions. Several times in the last few days I have found the four of them outside, circling the barn like a group of vultures, trying to decide what could have happened to it that would have caused it to collapse. I just can’t find the heart to tell them that it was just old and fell down.
Besides the theories that they have come up with have been far too entertaining. I don’t remember very many of them unfortunately. Between all of the sneezing and nasal drainage, I feel like my brain cells are just oozing out of my face. Ugh. But anyway, I digress. In the number three theory spot we have- ‘There was a huge storm and it picked up a tractor, and threw it into the barn.’ That explains how the tractor came to be inside of the barn. Frank is 100% behind the number two theory. In that theory, there was a mutant squirrel that antagonized an angry ogre. The angry ogre chased the oversized, apparently purple squirrel, across the yard and then the angry ogre took a really deep breath and he blew out ‘this hard’, (as demonstrated by The World-Builder as he took an exaggerated breath and then exhaled so hard that he about bent over double.) ‘and then, the whole center of the barn just went like this.’ (Both World-Builder and The Gentleman mimicked a giant explosion with their little arms. Complete with finger sparklers to show me just how truly explosive it really was. All with eyes bright and wide, completely bought in to Frank’s rendition of one possible option of what could have happened. The number one and settled theory of what ‘actually’ happened to the barn though, as well as my personal favorite, was that a giant dinosaur came along. Apparently it was walking across the field towards our house. It was a big daddy dinosaur. It stopped to get a drink at the ditch near our house before continuing on to our house. It was very curious about the barn. The daddy dinosaur didn’t know what it was, so he walked closer to get a look. But, he got startled by a pack of rabid squirrels. (Thank you Frank for that one. I then got to explain to three kids under the age of five what rabies was. That was the highlight of my day. NOT.) The rabid squirrels went running at the dinosaur and that big daddy dinosaur turned around really fast. Then his tail that was ‘this’ long, hit the barn and it fell down flat. (Complete with arm moments to demonstrate how it fell down flat. And then of course some explosion arms just for good measure.)
And that is the story of how we found out how our barn fell down. Lol.
