Frank and The Eagle Eye Investigation

Hey Kiddo,

I know that you appreciate a good dramatic event as much of the rest of us, so let me tell you about something that happened just this week. I was right in the middle of addressing some of Mabel’s ‘most pressing’ household concerns the other day when your Dad called me. From where he was standing next to the grill outside. Because there was an eagle of all things, hanging out in the branches above him. With Moo being outside with him, he had some concerns about what that eagle might have been thinking. But we got her inside and a few minutes later the eagle flew off. I tell you all of this to lead up to the actual story though.

The actual story begins the following day actually. The Kindred Spirit was hanging out on the deck, looking for a book to read on her phone, just enjoying the warm sunshine, when out of the blue, she hears this sudden crash. Looking over for the source of the sound, she sees a very dazed Frank climbing out of the boat, that just happens to be parked under the very same tree that the eagle had been perched in the day before. Walking over to take a look, she sees leaves poking out of Franks hair, along with a couple of twigs. Looking past him, she also notices that there is now a large branch residing inside the boat. Bewildered, she asked him, ‘What happened?’

So apparently Frank had missed out on seeing the eagle in the tree the day before, but he was still curious as to what that eagle could have been looking at. He decided to ‘interview’ everyone who had been present from the spectacle and then when that did not give him all of the answers that he was looking for, he decided to go and find them himself. So he climbed up in the tree, to the branch where he believed the eagle to have been sitting in, and he tried to survey the area from the eagles point of view. This resulted in him laying across the branch, with only his head and shoulders up and his head tilted and then twisting his head around to get the full view of what could have been the most likely ‘target’ of the eagle. He had made almost a full view of the area around him when he heard a small crack and felt the tree branch start to give. He tried to quickly shimmy back, but it was too late. Next thing he knew, he was laying on the bottom of the boat trying to figure out where he had gone wrong.

Thankfully, he seems to have survived the fall with only some bumps and bruises, but I imagine that he will probably be sore for a few days. I’d like to hope that he will have learned his lesson from this experience, but after so very many years of knowing him, I’m not going to hold my breath on it.

A certain someone was pretty pleased about the whole situation though. After the branches had been removed from the boat, a baby Abi Gail came along and quickly claimed them for herself. You should have seen her, running around the yard, dragging this hefty branch around with her. The weight of it enough that she kind of lisps to one side as she’s trying to drag in around with her. It’s pretty entertaining to watch, if I do say so myself.

Another thing that was pretty entertaining was the dressing down that Mabel gave Frank when he came back in the house with the dirt and debris from the boat all over him and the leaves and twigs in his hair. She demanded that he march himself straight back outside so that she could brush him down with the broom before he drug any more of that, ‘Flare inducing, cat fish stench, filthy rubbish into our abode.’ Then she took that broom and she brushed him down to the point of battering him. I know because I had to ask her to cut him a break after I saw him wincing in response to her vigorously whisking him down.

After the brushing though, Mabel sent him straight off to a hot shower to ease his abused muscles. By the time he came back Mabel had a pot of tea brewed up and she wasted no time on getting him settled in with a blanket and a cup of hot tea. Sometimes she’s just so much like a little mother hen. One minute she’s pecking her chicks on the head for wandering off and the next has them nestled in under her wing.

I should probably scoot along and let someone else have a turn, but I just wanted to say keep hanging in there, each day gets you one step closer to being home free. By the time you get this letter, May will be over and June will be here. I love you kiddo, catch you next time.

Love,
