Dear Entertainer,
My dear Mel has been working tirelessly to manage the household and her Virtual Web Estate. (Website) It really is the most curious modern hobby. Curating words and images together and just sending them out into the universe like that. It seems impossible that these words of hers can just take flight into the air and out all around the world like that.
Thinking about how vastly the world has changed in my lifetime brings another thought to mind. It occurred to me recently, dear boy, how very strange it will be when you return. So much has changed in the time you have been away. Time has passed for all of us. We have all seen seasons come and go since last we met. There will be things here at The Whispering Inkwell that will probably seem like no time has passed since you have been gone. Yet others may lead you to wonder how so much could have changed when you weren’t looking.
The Gentleman has grown up. He is no longer the little boy you might remember. My dear Mel jokes that she somehow gave birth to a Marine that cannot even join the military. He is so analytical and serious. I wonder if you will even recognize him when you get home.
The World Builder is also grown. His interests have grown and shifted. He has been in university for a whole year now and is preparing to continue his studies. Overall, he is a rather solitary soul.
The Kindred Spirit has blossomed like a flower. From a tightly packed rosebud, into an incredible summer rose. Her shyness melted away and thankfully took ALL of the ballcaps with it. She has also started a Virtual Web Estate to host all of her beautiful book cover ideas on.
Things around The Whispering Inkwell have changed, as well as the people. Appliances have come and gone. Furniture has shifted. But it’s more than that really. The energy here has begun to reflect the passage of time as an old chapter begins to close and a new chapter is being written. Old hobbies are being shed like rain after a summer shower. Pieces of that old life are breaking free to reveal what is to come. Relationships have been lost, some to death, and others to changes in their own stories. New friends have come and some have stayed. Since you have been gone, a new friend, Jamison, has come and joined us here at The Whispering Inkwell. Our family has grown as my dear Mel had the privilege of joining The Firework and The Investigator in holy matrimony, and their family has continued to grow. Two new grandbabies have arrived as well. Colt has stepped into the full-time role of general handyman here at The Whispering Inkwell. (Which mostly just means managing to repair the path behind Frank.) Muriel has returned from her studies at Cambridge and will be staying home while she continues her research. Artie keeps saying that we have outgrown the current landscape here at The Whispering Inkwell and I dare say that he is right. I think the time may be coming to prepare for a change of landscape. I say, prepare, but if I am being honest, some of those changes have been occurring for a while now. My dear Mel has been slowly but steadily trimming away at the excess here. Finding good homes for things that no longer have a place here. Too small clothes, unused hobbies, old forgotten schoolbooks have all been sent along on the next step in their journey. What does not cease to amaze me, though, is that no matter how much stuff we have trimmed away, there still doesn’t seem to be an extra inch of space to spare. I suspect that some of that is a reflection of the changes in the seasons. A year ago, my dear Mel needed an office for her Virtual Web Estate Empire. Now, she needs an entire Author’s Suite to hold the entirety of her creative pursuits. Ideally, one with a lock, because if I have to chase one more person with an idle question out while she is working…
Now, I find myself wondering, dear boy, what changes might we discover in you? Time has continued to pass for you as well, no matter how many times you may have thought it was standing still. What changes lie ahead as we look to your future? Although I am sure there will be times of swimming, movies and games to come, there will be so much more in your life than that in the days ahead. I wonder, as this new chapter approaches, where will it carry you? What new people will you meet? What will you discover along this uncharted road? What new dreams will you dream? You have such potential, dear boy, and it is a gift. And gifts are not meant to remain wrapped, but opened, appreciated and enjoyed. My prayer for you is that although you may stop to appreciate the pretty wrapping, you don’t delay in opening this gift. That you open it and allow it to transform you into the incredible man that the good Lord has created you to become.
This chapter in your life is coming to a close. Thank You Jesus. The new chapter still lies ahead. Today, just concentrate on the road before you. Before you know it, that new chapter will arrive.
Sincerely,
Mabel Pendergasp
