Today I would like to introduce you to my littlest niece, The Little Roar. She earned her name last Christmas. My sister had come over with her family and was holding my niece in her arms while standing just a few feet away from my husband, who was asleep in his chair. My niece just kept staring intently at him as he slept, then after a couple of minutes, she leaned a little closer to him and in a whisper voice ‘roared’ at him. It was so random and hilarious. The rest of us just broke out into laughter, while she continued staring at The Woodsman, as if waiting for him to react to her roaring. She was not even a year and a half at the time.
The Little Roar is a sight to behold. She’s one of those kids where you can just tell straight off that the gears are just turning in her head. She is hyper focused in trying to understand how things work. She just wants to know everything. I look at her already and I just know that whatever she sets her mind to, just look out. The rest of us just don’t stand a chance, lol. And if the brains weren’t enough, she’s also freaking adorable. You ever see the movie Storks? With the wolves that see the little baby and she just adorablizes them? Yeah, the Little Roar could be that baby. One minute she just has the sweetest most precious, innocent smile, but then she will turn around and get this little look on her face that looks like the real life version of the grinch when the narrator says, “The Grinch got a wonderful, awful idea!” Just full of a troublesome, devious quality. I tell my sister all the time, “You are so screwed. Uh huh.”
Just this last weekend when they were over we had quite the little experience. My niece had been running all over the house, laughing and playing with our dogs, climbing on them and laying on them and while the big dogs didn’t mind at that much, (at first anyway) the little dog was more cautious about letting the Little Roar unrestricted access to her. Which might have been the smartest thing she could have done. We were hanging out in the living room, just kind of chatting about this and that, when one minute the Little Roar was just innocently standing there with her head laying on Abby Gales (yellow lab) shoulder and then the next time I looked over there, the Little Roar has got her fingers up inside Abby’s nose and Abby was just sitting there with this look of absolute panic on her face, like, “Mayday! Mayday people! Could I get some help over here!!” I have never seen a dog with an expression like that before. It was like she just didn’t know what to do with this little creature that had its fingers up her nose. It was awful, but at the same time it was so funny. I wish I could have gotten a picture, but I didn’t want to test Abby’s patience any further than it already was, lol.
I am waiting to see how she continues to grow and change in time, especially with a new baby brother due to arrive any day now. Now, that is going to make things extra interesting. So stay tuned. Our newest cast member will soon be on his way!
