Today, as I was driving along in my car, alone I got to thinking. Yes, if you know me, I have been told that’s dangerous. Anyhow, I got to thinking about the concept of “saving the world” or even just reaching the world and what an insurmountable overwhelming task that would be. Each of us is such a tiny speck among the billions of people that live along side of us on this planet. How could we ever hope to affect so many? Then a movie scene came to my mind.
In the movie The Core a group of people are trying to get the fluid in the earths core to begin moving again in an effect to maintain the atmosphere and save the planet. To do this they are in a special machine that carries them down through the earths crust. At the time of this scene they have lost a few of their crewman and are struggling with the responsibility of saving the world. Then one of the characters, Sarge, tells his crewman he can’t save the whole world. That he has two children and his wife. He can save them. Three, just three people, that he can try and save. Sarge realizes that he is only one man and human and not equipped the handle the responsibility of the whole world on his shoulders.
Each one of us should make an effort to impact this world in which we live and so often give up because we couldn’t change the whole world. So don’t set off trying to change the whole world. Three lives. Just start by trying to impact three lives. Like ripples in pond while skipping stones that impact will spread. And who knows, maybe someday YOU will change the world.
