I came across something I wrote a few years ago and was blown away at how much it still resonates with me today. Sometimes we just need to give ourselves permission to let go of who we are so that we have the opportunity to grow into who we can become….
Over the next 365 days I give myself permission to…
Play, rest, love, vent, grow, shine, learn, explore, simplify, color outside the lines, be loved, be strong, be daring, dream big, be grateful, help others, be creative, laugh more, ask for help, be successful, accept myself, try new things, be determined, create my own life, be kinder to myself, repeat myself if I am not heard, repeat myself if I am not heard, keep an open mind, rise above negatively, let go of past hurts and regrets, celebrate my daily achievements, and grab opportunity with both hands.
Seeing this today, when I felt a little lost and without a starting point, helped me to find my center in the midst of uncertainty. I needed to be reminded that I need to take time to play. Too not take life too seriously. Which has seriously been a struggle lately. It was good to see that since I wrote this, I have given myself permission to get a little much needed rest…..it only took a few years to get myself to do that. Well time and some cancer, but….detail, details, lol. During my period of somewhat forced rest, I was able to step back and give myself permission to be a little more creative, as well as work on simplifying. Can I get an amen there? Simplifying is, well, its awful really. Trying to figure out what to change, what to get rid of, letting go of things that are “still good”. However the benefits are priceless. We havent made nearly the dent that I would have liked in the amount of stuff that we own, but just the stuff I have managed to simplify has made a huge difference in my ability to feel like a functional human. Just seeing the piles get shorter, or seeing one section of counter be able to be maintained day after day helps me to keep moving forward. If you are struggling with purging your life of unnecessary stuff, please let this be an encouragement to you to not give up. Set aside a box for get rid of stuff. Dont ask yourself if you could get money for the objects. Just let them go. Just one thing at a time. Let it go. Put it in the box. Dont think about the stuff you have put in the box. When the box is full, close it, seal it, start a new box. Get rid of the full box. And dont look back. You made the right choice. You can do it.
