I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~Philippians 4:13

What we need to note here, is that the scripture says, “all things”; not just the things I want to do or am willing to do. Sometimes, God is going to ask us to do things that we don’t want to do or are not willing to do. Despite our unwillingness, we can still accomplish these things through Christ. We have to believe for His strength in not only getting us through it, but, giving us the strength to do it in the first place.
To Do All Things
God offers us strength to do all things. All kinds of things. We need to be willing to ask for and accept those things. This may include:
- Big things
- Little things
- Important things
- Ordinary things
- Hard things
- Easy things
- Things we want to do
- Things we are willing to do
- Things we think we can’t do
- Things we don’t want to do
- Things we are unwilling to do
I Don’t Want To
We dont always look to God for strength to get through all of these things. Yeah, we turn to Him when there is something big that WE want. We turn to Him when something big comes our way that we cant escape. But, do we turn to Him in the little things? Do we turn to Him for strength for the things He leads us to that we DONT want to do? Or do we step back and say, “I dont want to. I want a different option. One that I like.”
Turn To Him
Do we turn to Him for strength for the millions of little things that try and overrun our day?
I was reading a devotion today. There was a part in it that just caught me. The author talks about claiming Philippians 4:13 for great things, for things we never dreamed we could accomplish, but then she says, “we shouldn’t be surprised when God whispers it back to us when He calls us to do menial, ordinary or even demeaning tasks for HIm.”
~Erin Greneaux*
When you get up in the morning, God wants to be your strength. When you pray, God wants to be your strength. When you dont have the money to pay the rent, God wants to be your strength. When you are home with your children and have heard the question “why?” 75,000 times and its not even noon, God wants to be your strength. When you dont know what to make for dinner, God wants to be your strength. When He asks you to talk to that person on the street corner, God wants to be your strength. When you stand up and give your testimony to a full auditorium, God wants to be your strength. IN ALL THINGS, He WILL give you strength. Just lean on HIm.
Strength In All Things
God wants to give us strength. Strength in big things. Strength in small things. Strength in the things we want to do. Strength in the things we dont. God wants to be our strength IN ALL THINGS. That is the offer He has made to each and every one of us.
